LINA GAYETA LASQUETY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
KM 174 Brgy. Kinagunan Ibaba, Padre Burgos, Quezon, 4303
ABOUT
HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Ardent desire to democratic opportunities for a secondary education led the Sangguniang Barangay members of Kinagunan Ibaba headed by Hon. Lina Lasquety to organize a barangay high school. Realizing the needs to put up a barangay high school was considered because of the educational situation in this barangay.
Barangay Kinagunan was five (5) kms away from the town proper of Agdangan and approximately ten (10) kms away from Padre Burgos. Students will have to travel by bus, jeepney, tricycle or even walk from their place to the private school or nearby barangay at San Isidro NHS. Youths cannot finish their secondary education because of financial constraints and parents cannot support their children’s education in the secondary level.
Considering this situation, the people behind the foundation of the school worked hand in hand to have a public high school in this barangay. Resolutions have been proposed by the SB Members of Kinagunan Ibaba in 1996. Feasibility studies have been prepared and concerned parents go from house to house to have a complete list of possible students. Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo Lasquety donated a 10, 000 sq m parcel of land beside the national road which is suitable for a public school. They willingly donated parcel of their lot because it was always been a dream of Mrs. Lasquety- a native of this barangay to help her constituents and out of her love for education because she too was an educator. They believe they would built a living legacy that would always be remembered by their fellowmen in this locality.
In April, 1997 everyone in the community witnessed the “blessing ceremony” of the school that they can call their own. The ceremony was attended by people who exerted effort in that undertaking. This people were the 1997 SB Members of Kinagunan Ibaba, SB Members of Padre Burgos headed by Vice Mayor Guevarra, Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo Lasquety, Hon Vicente Rommel Arellano-Former Mun. Mayor, Cong. Danilo Suarez for funding of teacher’s salary, Senator Ernesto Maceda who funded the first classroom of the said school, and Mr. & Mrs. Angeles for donating arm chairs.
At first, the planned name was St. Pancracius NHS but was later called Kinagunan Ibaba NHS. Though, the school’s first classroom was located at the vicinity of Brgy. Cabuyao Sur, Padre Burgos, Quezon later, the name KINHS was used since it was originally proposed by the Sangguniang Barangay members of Kinagunan Ibaba, hence, a reminder that they were once part of the school’s foundation.
Thirty (30) students made up the first enrollees for SY 1997-1998. Two young, dedicated teachers from Unisan served as teachers. They were Miss Nerissa J. Cerda and Miss Rosella C. Madla. On the opening of the school year, these two teachers were headed and assisted by Mr. Wenceslao C. Descallar, Head Teacher at Kinagunan Elementary School, he served as the school’s O.I.C. for the time being. Parents and Teachers Organization was organized through the assistance of Mr. Descallar.
The following was the first PTA Organization for the School Year 1997-1998:
Leonila . Hernandez - President
Cynthia G. Manalo - Vice President
Nerissa J. Cerda - Secretary
Delia Garcia - Treasurer
Anatalia Medina - Auditor
Clemencia Las Pinas - PRO Elizaldy Iglea - PRO
Felix Garcia - Sgt. At Arms
On July 16, 1997, another teacher, Mrs. Edenia A. Garin a private school teacher at Agdangan Academy was hired. Since she was more experienced, she was considered as the school’s administrator. From then on she served as Teacher In Charge at KINHS.
Problems of a newly established school were faced by the school. On the top list was teacher’s salary. It took them nine (9) months to receive their first salary; the salary was allocated for one (1) teacher only. But to make both ends meet, the three teachers (3) agreed to divide the salary among them. It was March, 1998 when two (2) national item positions were granted/allocated for the school. Mrs. Edenia Garin was able to have one of the national item position and another teacher, Mrs. Rowena Gines was appointed to have the other.
School Year 1998-1999 seemed to promise a better year for the school. In this year, another school building was utilized by the school through the CDF of elected Philippine Councilor’s League President -Hon. Lina G. Lasquety who happen to be the founder of the school.
The pioneer teacher still served as voluntary teachers in the school. Mrs. Rowena Gines transferred in another school the following year vice Mr. Lino M. Cruzat.
As the years passed, enrolment increased gradually, and the advent of the year 2000-2001 marked a milestone in the history of KINHS. Their first graduate was seen on the stage. Tears drop upon hearing the valedictory address of the pioneer Class’ valedictorian-Arnold Q. Reyes, the inspiring message of the guest speaker, Mrs. Lina G. Lasquety who happened to be the founder of the school and the parents of the graduates who are probably thanking God for giving them such precious gift-KINHS.
KINHS was aware of its educational objectives of giving quality education for the broader mass-the youth. The school joined in different academic competitions and co-curricular contests. They may not always bring home the bacon, but they always strive to give their best to show their competitors how competent they are.
